Sure a lot of people go on extended holidays or may have short term contracts abroad but does your insurance company know the details of your particular case? I.e. that you are living in Ireland. And how much does it cost to go back and forth to the UK ever 90 days?

The new system of taxation will be applicable to new and imported category A vehicles.

Your car is 5 years old so its the old system. What size engine is it? You should be able to bring the car in under 'change of residence'

I would go for the change of res as suggested by Monkey and to be honest I do not believe that the insurance broker is giving you the correct information.
