I beg to differ with this. The original name for jeans is actually Denim, which is a derivative of "De Nimes" ( from Nimes) a French city in the south of France who is famous (AMONG OTHER THING) for creating this famous stich wich is very resistant and made out of one thread.
As usual the yanks took a good idea, revamped it and made it their own.
