I was moved by this thread so I went next door and asked my elderly neighbours if i could assist them by doing some shopping for them. They gave me a little list of necessities they needed ..... 80 Silk Cut and a bottle of Jameson!

being homeless is a real fear of mine and I'm extremely grateful life worked out the way it has for me so that I haven't ended up like one or two people I know, thankfully I don't do drugs, drink/punt/gamble any more than I can easily afford and have a very large and supporting family I could always approach should I need help. That being said it's realising you are close to being homeless then admitting it before it's too late is a major problem for some people.
I always give money to the truly homeless when I can (I actually bring a pocket of cash for them when I'm knocking around town), there is an elderly homeless guy I see most days of the week and I have made sure to give him at least €10 each day I have seen him this week as the thoughts of anyone especially the old spending the night out in this weather is just sickening.
