Over 50,000 Irishmen were killed fighting for the British Empire in World War One. Most of them in the living hell of the trenches, on behalf of pompous officers drawn from the gentry that saw them as cattle.
Also, Gordo's bit about the Fenian raids in Canada is true. Needless to say, they were a complete fiasco
