People want to have the chat up so you can see what others are saying, even though you don't take part in the conversation yourself. Then later, you can scroll back through all of it, see who came in or left and what they said.

It's called "idling". It's part of any chat that has regular people coming in there who can't be active all the time. How are we supposed to be active on there for hours on end?

I also think that we should have irc chat if at all possible, with a flash chat option on the website. That way we can use our own clients to connect to it and have the chat look the way we want. We can also close firefox or whatever if we're having problems with it, and also log the chats.
hmmmmmmm why would u want an irc????????what would be useful for??????
all this thread and request to not get kick out when u are a lurker is sooooo sarcastic and absolute nonsense.........

there u have few tips and by the way u do not have to thank me for being useful and helpful....

inactivity=indicates absence of action, indisposition to activity, or cessation of activity an inactive compound

chatroom=place where users have group discussions by electronic mail, typically about one subject,
" " =a branch of a computer network in which participants CAN engage in real-time discussions with one another

lurkers=people that read or observe an ongoing discussion without participating in it, as in an Internet newsgroup....

hope this makes sense and gave you the answer over why ppl that aren't participating on the chat are kicked out........

I agree that an inactive user should be booted out. It's especially handy if you're browsing other web pages and forget that you're logged in.
