It looks like food security could become a real issue in Europe in years to come
The race to the bottom in terms of squeezing the primary producer seems to be
taking a toll. Cheap imports are being encouraged driving producers in Europe
under cost of production either reducing or ceasing production .
Whats the problem u say? Well here it is, what happens when the inward
flow stops? It can with a stroke of a pen.
Russia have banned all export of Grain till at least the years end.
It has already had a serious effect, driving price forward considerably
Wheat in particular. It is forecast that bread and grain based products
like cereals will probably increase in price by 10%. These are staples
of the diet and in every shopping basket.
If the world trade talks have their way they will sacrafice agriculture
even further to open up markets of these huge producers for stuff like
computers etc. More and more European farmers will go out of
buisness we will get more and more dependent on imports and less
self sufficent.
I believe in the long term we will pay a very heavy price, something
like a conflict would let us seriously vulenerable, even politically
it would be very dangerous as these countries would see the
posotion of power they have gotten into and can lean on us
accordingly.
What has happened in Russia should be seen as a shot across
the bows and taken seriously as what could happen in the future on
a much larger scale. Now is the time to act before its too late

Do people want cheap non traceable food often of questionable
quality and unpredicitable supply
Or are they prepared to pay a fair price for quality traceable food
with a guarnteed supply
The Choice can be yours
