She was saying that she sufferred depression her whole life, then founds drugs that totally changed her life for the better overnight.

I was always quite anti drugs for depression, as I felt like it was better to work yourself out of depression with therapy etc, rather than rely on drugs to get you by. Plus some drugs can be addictive and you even hear horror stories about drugs making people violent or suicidal etc. So it was interesting to read that drugs had been the best solution for someone.

We know so little about the brain, and I think with some people there may be some chemical imbalance or suchlike that can be treated with drugs, and so drugs can be the best solution in their case.

Drugs can also be a good temporary solution for some people I think. I think if you are dangerously depressed then drugs might be a good way to climb out of that pitt and be well enough to start looking for long-term solutions to the problems you are facing.

It always sad when people commit suicide, because I think that is very often a case of someone with depression who has gotten so low and not been able to ask for help or not gotten help, and if they had just been able to get help it never would have happened, as they weren't in their right mind. With bad depression it is all too easy to not be thinking straight at all I think.

The people saying reaching out for help is so important are right I think. We all need help sometimes.

I think what works for depression is different for everyone. All the sugestions people are giving are good and you just need to find what works for you. It's a shame health care in Ireland is so bad as I'm sure that doesn't make it very easy to get help always, but you have to be strong and get help, for yourself and your loved ones.
i was thinking along those lines suicide stupid i know that taking medication was the last thing i wanted to do but looks like i must take them and do what i have been told by my doctor today i'm drinking blackcurrent and water no alcohol for me for a long time because the drink didn't help with my state of mind patricia thank you for your help you have one fantastic site here and to all those who helped me over the last while

For depression, drugs are still one of the better treatments, drugs like the SSRIs and Clozpoine and anti depressent drugs that i mentioned try and get the brain to get the serotonin and dopamine (feel good hormone) to balanve out and get rid of the depression, however its the CBT that is the real breakthrough.

The drugs work well in the short term and combining them with the CBT has an 80 % success rate

I think a big problem with todays society is ppl have forgotten to take time for themselves,me time like i call it. I have rarely if ever suffered from depression and i have the same probs as others that do. The one thing i always did was everyday take time for me,on my own. It gives the brain and body a chance to eliminate any build up of stress.

    try it,
    Westside.

Totally agree with this, in times like we have a the moment we are driven to perform and suceed , in our quest for perfection we often forget ourselves , I admire you Harry and you are in more control that you realise , hope you overcome this .

Hi all, very interested in Harrys situation. I suffered from depression all my life. Also i have an addictive personality from drink, smoking sweets anything. you have done the first thing right that is admitted to yourself and other people here that you have a problem. What i done secondly was told my G P who prescribed anti depression tabs not anything heavy but something like xanax which i find very good. I think everyone suffers a little bit from this every now and then. For instance i read these posts every day but do not post any as i feel i would make a balls of it. This is in itself low esteem, still when i meet people out i can be a great crack. Also keep talking, and it eases without you knowing it. I genuinely hope this helps you some bit. Cheers Madjack
