Default Holy Jo(e)s still influential in Ireland

What is it with this Nanny State attitude towards Sex Workers and the payment for sex ???

The Holy Jo(e)s still hold inordinate influence when it comes to all matters of Sex,despite the recent (welcome) liberalisation of laws in the State.

Unlike most other Western European States it is still a crime to pay for sex in this State

The quote below is from a Belgian Sex Workeron Twitter (X) :

    "Sex work is work!

Belgium SWers now qualify for pensions, maternity leave, & other labor rights like health insurance, holidays, and unemployment support.

The law also states SWers can decline clients or refuse to perform certain acts & stop at any point.

    Power to the people."

We sure have a long way to go in Ireland

I was talking recently to a lawyer from New Zealand and according to him their model is working extremely well.

Once again we went for the wrong model and the wrong example for ideological reasons.

It's not perfect but at least now the women themselves don't have to fear the law so they can seek Gardaí help if anyone threatens them or the like, so a step in the right direction and hopefully we'll get there eventually.

I cant see the law being changed . The people who forced the change are convinced that sex workers have been trafficked into the country . A lot of the EI Ladies in Ireland have little or no English . Many of them do not take their phone appointments and many of the Asian ladies have little or no time between appointments . The people who are monitoring the business are not going to allow the law to be changed while this is going on . Unfortunately the punters visiting truly independent Ladies are also categorised as criminals and put on the sex offenders list when caught. Crazy law
