Thread: Dignity

  1. Arrow Dignity

Having a glass of wine with dinner - or laying in the gutter

A Barrister - or an Ambulance chaser .

Is there a difference , or each equally dignified ?

My examples not to pertain to our industry , I am not comparing Anyone to any above .

I am genuinely interested in opinions :

Does Dignity Matter anymore in this world ?

Or have we come to a point in our Compassion that no matter how a person behaves ,

how a person conduct themselves , Who that person may be by their own actions :

Is it all the same now ?

Please : a general discussion , Not personal , not targeted ; I am curious what’s going on in

    Society .
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

Dignity : nothing to do with money or how much .

In many cases a poor man will have more dignity in his poverty than some of the wealthiest of society .

Dignity is innate , not bought .

Carrying one’s self through life with Dignity - does it still matter ?

Matters to the person , does it matter to society ?
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

I think dignity is sadly lacking in modern society.
I would always treat people the way i would like to be treated myself.
Respecting others elementary of their status is truly important.
As you know Stephanie, I’ve had many ups and downs in life.
    As I reflect on life;
It is frightening the lack of respect you receive when you struggle , whether that is mentally, physically or financially.

To my mind the only thing you bring with you after you leave this life is your name. Mind it !

Years ago the Parish Priest and local school teacher were set on a pedestal - Their word was Gospel.

No one dare question them. The power of the Catholic Church - Rule by fear and guilt.

    Thankfully that day has passed.

But in many ways things haven't improved.

Doctors, nurses and ambulance staff being attacked, physically and verbally on a daily basis.

Drug gangs making millions spreading death and misery.

The old blue driving licence had the 3 C's on the back -

    Care

    Courtesy

    Consideration.

    Sadly lacking nowadays.

I try my best to treat everyone I meet with respect in my daily life.

    But some don't deserve respect.

So I guess it depends on the individual and their attitude Stephanie.

"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. I sat at a table where were rich food and wine in abundance, and obsequious attendance, but sincerity and truth were not; and I went away hungry from the inhospitable board. The hospitality was as cold as the ices. I thought that there was no need of ice to freeze them. They talked to me of the age of the wine and the fame of the vintage; but I thought of an older, a newer, and purer wine, of a more glorious vintage, which they had not got, and could not buy. The style, the house and grounds and "entertainment" pass for nothing with me. I called on the king, but he made me wait in his hall, and conducted like a man incapacitated for hospitality. There was a man in my neighborhood who lived in a hollow tree. His manners were truly regal. I should have done better had I called on him..."

If a man does not keep pace
    with his companions,
perhaps it is because he hears

    he hears,

It's a term that confuses the hell out of me to be honest. Always has. It's meaningless in itself, relies on having any combination of other definable qualities

such as having respect, compassion, grace and humility. Without being routed in other "good" qualities, it's paper thin, just acting; one could easily be a self-righteous pompous asshole acting in a "dignified manner".

What definition of dignity do you mean?

Do you simply mean adding a touch of class to something? Or what definition?

I've always found the term wishy washy and especially because of my experience of it in relation to sex work - self-dignity, having dignity, protecting my dignity, not letting people take my dignity - what does that even mean? Feck off and come back to me when you have a definition of dignity that I can understand as it relates to me (not you Stephanie).
