I'd say the phoning in sick was a cover story. I'd say he just didn't turn up for work and couldn't be contacted so somebody probably went looking for him and then it was discovered.........

Even if it was drugs, they won't say it was-heart failure due to medications he was on for his weight problem is more like it.

For some reason he didn't annoy me like the other TV and radio personalities do.

Gerry had talent! One of the few people able to express and enjoy himself, an ambassador for this country I would be prould of. He had an intimate style, able to talk to all types. Thankyou for several decades of entertainment Gerry!

I must say I did like to listen to him in the mornings if I was driving anywhere, he had a way about him that most people liked, and he was good at his job and was a household name. I was listening to him yesterday morning , fair enough it was a bit crap but still. He only just took 10% wage cut recently seems a shame now.

I remember a caller to his show last yr was having a terrible time with a tennant of his . He was being verbally and physically abused by this guy and said that he had gone to the garda but they said they couldn't help him . This was the 1st caller into his show that morning and i remember getting a shock when Gerry lost the plot . He banged his desk and nearly turned the air blue . He promised the caller that he would personally speak to Garda Commissioner Fachna Murphy and get this guy sorted .

He broke the story Of Lavinia Kerwick back in the 90s and most recently was the case of the baby with the left heart something syndrome that he brought to the nations attention , mornings will never be the same again ...RIP big guy
