Most gay men I know (and I only know three, one of which is an extended family member) are perfectly normal otherwise. The word is not offensive if you like to suck cock. However if I called someone I did not know a 'FREAK', especially in the context in which you were using the word, they, regardless of whom they may have oral sex with, may be offended.
