I believe an online petition like that even if signed by lots of people is worthless when presented to those who really could change the laws (i.e. the politicians).

I do believe that a petition with lots of support can at least send out a signal. The press is seemingly trying to put a spin on the current situation (i.e. only 25 signatures on the petition) and yes, the signal that is being sent out is that the law as it stands is fine, although exactly the opposite is the truth.

I encourage every punter who reads this to sign the petition, you don't need to sign with your real name or with your primary and well known email address. While the law probably won't be changed only on the basis of a petition like this, at least a positive signal can be sent out to the world.
