Sometimes i find it hard to understand why anyone would choose marriage over a steady escort life and maybe a low maintenance girlfriend.

Interesting view point but I suspect you are still constrained by something (whether the law, legacy or morality) in your day to day life as I'd like to think for example you don't have a bundle of bodies under your floorboards or you don't spend your day thinking about how to defraud the orphans and widows pension scheme at work. What you are describing above veers into sociopathic territory. In my view anyway.

Oh yeah, but it is purely for your own mental and/or physical comfort that you don't upset the status quo. You don't wanna have hassle, or go to jail, or be burdened with nasty memories, so you choose not to whack that annoying neighbour!
But when kids are on the scene, now you are living for them, and all these institutions like laws and morality have a purpose and give a framework for their life. Without kids, well you can basically just do whatever you are comfortable with as it really only affects you, as far as you're concerned.

I think that is part of the issue, most guys absolutely realise that, but that wife you describe is becoming increasingly more difficult to find.

Well for me personally a married life is far more rewarding in the long term, Imagine having a loving partner who loves you, you are her world and she is yours and you grow and learn together, its fulfilling. There is more than 1 way to be intimate and it isnt just physical. Although that might not be everyone circumstances in marriage but what if it was and/or could be.
