You can buy a SIM without giving your details, but that's not failsafe. If the Gardai are investigating, they will find you. Don't forget your beautiful image on CCTV at the exact time that particular SIM was sold. The shop might not ask for your details but they do keep records of the date, time and number of every SIM sold.

I’ve noticed that when you save a number in your phone book or recommends social media accounts linked to the number, game over if a scorned provider decides to ruin your life.

Yes, punting phone means a phone linked only to your punting identity. If you are dumb enough to have apps on the same phone linked to your real identity you are asking for trouble.

Gardai investigating? They won't go into that depth unless you murdered someone

Yes, but consider a lady being seriously assaulted or fatally assaulted by a client, and your punter phone number is in her phone memory. You will be traced. They will probably just want to eliminate you from their enquiries.. but 'explain' the knock on the door, especially if the missus answers !! No punter phone is completely anonymous.

Christ, so your worried that you might be contacted if the girl is murdered? God help you with that level of paranoia.

I'm not worried !! I was making the point that a 'burner' phone can be traced if need be. The opinon of a lot of posters seems to be that they are entirely anonymous with a 'burner' which isn't true.

Regarding 'paranoia' ... picture the scene; A report on the news about the body of a young lady found in an apartment building.. the same apartment building where you had 'visited' a lady in the previous days. On a scale of one to ten how nervous or paranoid would you be !!!!.

Unfortunately it did happen a few years ago in Dublin. A very long list of guys got knocks on the door. Doesn't have to be a murder either. Odds of that very low, but a risk nonetheless.

Having to mind it must be a pain in the ass... remembering not to leave it turned on, remembering not to leave it in your pocket, remembering not to leave it in the car. remembering cash only when topping up, remembering to get rid of the top up receipt etc. etc...... Jesus I'm exhausted !!!
