    Angry Solar Flare

    .
    .

There's always dooms day articles in the media or online about solar flares sending us all back to the dark ages

    Science fiction!?

I saw this article and it coincides
with events that happened to me last Thursday 14th

    http://www.geomag.bgs.ac.uk/data_ser...%20six%20years.

Plot of the solar X-ray flux from the 15th December showing an increase due to the long-duration X-class flare peaking at 17:02 UT on 14th December

I was in the bank and needed to login to my account on my phone but couldn't get a signal which was strange as I've never had any issues before
so the girl advised I login on their WiFi
    but it wasn't working either

Strange to imagine what the world would look like if a strong enough solar flare caused enough damage to satellites and electronics

No mobile phone signal and with online banking/digital currency no way to access your account
it could also potentially have major effects on the power grid

Anyone else notice lost signal last Thursday 14th between 4pm-5pm?
or was it just a coincidence

While the solar flare image is nice for dramatic effect, the sun is approx 150 Million km away from Earth (with 2 other planets orbiting in between) just to add perspective.

The reason solar flares have an effect on our technology is due to the immense magnetic field created by the flare's ejection.
In order to bring us back to the dark ages there would need to be an almost impossibly large single flare or (more likely) a sustained solar storm.
Even though both are theoretically possible, they are both unlikely (the sustained solar storm is only "more likely" due to how unlikely a single flare of that magnitude would be), so try not to worry too much.

Beyond all that, we're talking about damage to equipment we have the ability to repair.
So while it would be an inconvenience for a bit, it's not detrimental (unless we've forgotten how to live in society without our technology....)

    oh my God, were fucked

Oh I'm not worried about getting fried!! 😄😆
I'm aware of the distances and odds of a major event

I know the media tend to blow everything out of perportion

I'm just curious if anyone else noticed a drop in WiFi or network signal on Thursday

I'm just glad I wasn't on my way to meet a girl
with no signal I had not Google maps or WhatsApp

I'm not sure if my standard message was working I didn't check
but I do know the Bank also lost its WiFi signal

I stayed in a hotel on Friday night and was told they had been having trouble from Thursday with their satellite dishes

Just seemed a lot of coincidences around the same time!?

    Yes.
    Really!!?
    Now that is odd!?

so it seems to have happened right across Ireland North and South!?

    Anybody else notice this?
    Last Thursday 14th between 4pm-5pm

If it was widespread I'd imagine it was a quiet hour for the Ladies

Guys possibly not being able to get in contact or walking around lost trying to get a signal for Google maps

It couldn't have just been Tel network or it wouldn't have effected the Banks WiFi?

I took the day off , I wouldn’t have the Slightest if the World came to an abrupt stop

What immense luxury to take the time to one’s self when one feels like !!

    I Am blessed xx

Could very well have been some effects of it :: did read numerous articles on the subject —

    — it would appear it Was a concern xx
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

We have had Northern lights (aurora borealis) in the North after similar solar flares

but it's the first time I've ever personally made a connection (or in this case no connection) with disruption to technology

But like I've said it could all have been a coincidence!?

Putting us all back to the dark ages before we destroy ourselves might not be such a bad thing

besides it would be a good excuse for a candle light dinner finishing off beside a log fire in a snow covered cabin 😉

    Very Christmassy!!

Actually, I'm in Florida currently, but did have very, very spotty mobile data Thurs 11.00-14.00 EST in an area I should not have had any issues.
