Lot of people expect better cameras in phones as technology improves, yet an S22's cam is worse than an S21's, and an S23's is downright shit in my opinion, so I gotta agree with the original poster.
Don't wait to get confident. Just do it, and eventually the confidence will follow.

That’s where we differ, if I was into cameras I’d buy one, the IPhone is a communication device and that’s where it’s strength lies, the Samsungs you mentioned just aren’t in the same class as an Apple on either front

Samsung usually has the better cameras.
It really comes down to os preference with phones. The top end samsung & apples are generally similar spec.
