Apologies guys, I still havnt figured out how to reply to multiple posts in one!

It angers me the lenghts he went to to avoid getting caught, zero remorse, just protect his own scummy behind, he admitted to Gardai he murdered her he said he thought “oh no I’ll get 10 years for this” !!!!!!

He went straight to his parents house in Dublin, shaved his beard, then the following morning stabbed himself twice in the stomach and went to hospital pretending he had been attacked in blanchardstown.

It’s just so heartbreaking, From what I read in the papers, this young lady could not have been more wholesome person who fully contributed to society in the most positive ways, and her life so brutally taken by this worthless piece of shit, it would just make me question my faith, my beliefs in karma, like why, why, why.

It’s a mandatory life sentence for murder but as I was saying before life does not mean life here.

His defence is claiming it wasn’t him, but he admitted it to Gardai and there’s a huge amount of evidence against him already including DNA, I’d imagine the defence are looking for a fle in Garda procedure to get him off on a technicality. Doubt it will happen though.

And he even admitted to the garda in the beginning. How is he pleased not guilty now. Making her poor family to listen to the horrible details of the attack and the great efforts of those people trying to safe her life afterwards.

I would prefer if life imprisonment meant that you stay in prison until you die, but that's never going to happen in a modern western democracy.
In US there’s : Life , or Life without parole .

Or in some states the death penalty. I know it's a controversial topic but I believe that in this country there in no proper deterrent for crime, particularly serious crime.

Prisons are too cushy like bnbs with access to a gym, courses, activities, like criminal training camps. How to get stronger and smarter and make new connections with fellow criminals.

I really hope the day comes where the dept of justice goes right, enough is enough, we've had so much serious crime over the past years, horrific attacks on the elderly, horrific attacks on gardai, we need real punishments and real deterrents.

Unfortunately you are right. As a parent I don’t want to see him to leave the prison ever. He should go to Russia to mine coal.

Exactly!!! All the money spent on “minding” these criminals, put them to work!!

Zero money spent assisting/rehabilitating victims of serious crime.

Google : norwegian prisons vs american prisons

    Norway recidivism is 20 % while US is 78 % ( ? ) — taking into account the very diff approach .

Also : Google : norwegian prisons documentary

To me astonishing how different the correctional system is compared to UK , US ,

yet Norway apparently has a very low crime rate , and very few return for a further stint .

Eye for an eye , tooth for a tooth doesn’t seem to be working ( in US ) UK ?

Especially when violent offenders are let out on bail before trial / or in US now Without bail .

: But I think there are fundamental differences in these societies as a whole to consider as well .

Could keep going on an’ on , but will keep it brief this time

    I think this is from 2020 .

I don’t believe such approach could work in UK / US ! Or in Ireland even ?

I don't think comparing things with the USA is any help. The USA is a basket case of a country, every sort of a nutjob carries a gun legally and it's off the scale in terms of homicides. There are mass shootings every couple of days. It's crazy. Their prisons are packed, their sentences are long and harsh and they still use the death penalty but it doesn't work, their crime rate is shocking.

Better comparing us to other European countries. Norway is certainly interesting, also Finland and Iceland. In Iceland nearly every household has guns, but there is never a gun killing! Only 2 in the last decade. We could learn from countries like that.
