I am sure that if RTE started to introduce 5 minute advertising slots after every 10 minutes of programming, this overkill would actually loose them viewers. You only have to look at American commercial television......no sooner has the program started, then you are informed "we will be right back after the following messages".....and that's the signal for the viewer to change channels and see what's going on elsewhere because the messages will last 5 to 7 minutes.
Personally speaking, an escort who assaults my senses with large gaudy advertising-signatures brings O'Connell Street (Dublin) to mind.....a place to be avoided late at night.
