Oh , silly me : asking a bunch of guys about flower care x

But if someone should have a clue I’d greatly appreciate it !

: I Always have cut flowers in my apartment , do have a bit of green-thumb generally ,

but now second time it’s happened with roses 🌹 :: I buy them in the store , they look great ,

take them home , trim the bottom before putting in water , and by next morning they’re wilted 🥀 .

What gives !?

It doesn’t happen Every time , but now it’s second time it’s happened . It’s irking .

Am I doing s’thing wrong ? ( I have no issues usually )

Is there s’thing wrong with those batches ?

Any advice or insight be appreciated xx

At this point I do suspect I might have shocked the life out of them with too cold water 🥶 💦

Happy to report : the later batch from same vendor is sprightly and well 🌹 .

I think You got it : I must’ve frozen the life out of them with cold water .

Put some 7-up in water it helps keep them alive… a little sugar will do to… and don’t put too much water in… if the water is too high on stem it kinda “drowns” them if you know what I mean…

iv had them last ages at home with just water and the little packets of feed. Cant recall any wilting overnight. Not that i have flowers in the house often

I know nothing about looking after flowers, but from your story, clearly something has changed, and if you have not changed your habits with home heating, then there are only two possibilities.

- The problem is to do with the flowers, in which case you could experiment by buying from a different place and see if that sorts it out.

- The problem is with your tap water - perhaps experiment by buying a bottle of water and see if they die as quickly.

I'll be interested to hear the end of the story! x

I know it sounds weird but apparently a crushed up aspirin in the water keeps them fresher for longer

Plants and apartments do not go together.
Plants (there are exceptions) like warm, not hot, (certainly not hot and dry) moist conditions.
If the conditions inside your apartment were ideal for roses it would be so damp you would have mould on the walls.
What has changed if they lasted longer before? Hard to know.
It is not the season for roses so they have been artificially grown, possibly under glass with artificial moisture (usually a fine mist spray) and controlled temperature. Removing them from those conditions could be a shock. Any plant cut off from their roots will last a short time in any case.
Flowers like daffodils are just about in season but early in the season they are just starting to grow and do grow vigorously and if they are cut now do not last as long as those cut later in the season when their growth is less vigorous.
I have been told roses often are treated so that they cannot be rooted and grown. This is to protect copyright and people reproducing a protected rose. . This sometimes protects against wilting in the short term but kills the plant eventually.
Yes, sugar, aspirin (aspirin is produced naturally in plants) and various other things do help.
But, I suspect a hot dry apartment, ideal and comfortable for Homo Sapiens, but not so ideal and comfortable for plants, is part of the problem.
