Default RTE investigates : Domestic Abuse

I found watching this documentary tonight very upsetting
I haven't had a brilliant marriage, but i take a minimum of 50% responsibility for that , we basically just drifted apart
I find it really shocking what some ladies described tonight on the programme
Nobody should have to endure any domestic abuse or coercive control, elementary of whatever circumstances exist

Yes, I watched that documentary aswell, and you would wonder how anyone could do that sort of stuff to someone that you loved at some point. Unfortunately this kind of stuff has been going on for years. I ve seen it happen to some of my own family members that married absolute bastards. Altough it was a long time ago that documentary brings back unwanted memories.

I totally agree domestic abuse towards both men and women has been around forever, the difference now is that what was acceptable normalised behaviour is no longer accepted, the changes in legislation, implementation of coercive control laws and the increase of both media and social media has put this into the public forum

    I hope your OK bmw

Yes, you are correct about people letting on that it never happened and it was ok to do such things. In my family members case these guys partners, my sisters were always giving people second chances, third chances, and so on. Thanks for being so thoughtful xx

Last nights documentary was really shocking and disturbing viewing, I had a sister married to a guy , who I knew was controlling everything in my sisters life , even though she was the main breadwinner in the marriage , she gave him so many chances, kept going back to him , and blaming herself for the problems
When she eventually left him , she then told me that things were much worse than she had admitted,
When someone finds themselves in that situation, there appears to be no escape, as a nation we do not provide enough support for victims of domestic/physical abuse , financial abuse or coercive control

Yes,There were probably lots of things that your sister didnt say anything about for fear of reprisals . I know that was the case with my own family members.

Watched that programme too.How anyone could be so cruel to another person is beyond me .It actually made me feel ashamed as a man tbh ...I know we are not all tarred with same brush etc but jez some of the horrendous incidents where downright disgusting. Need an overhaul of judicial system here..some of sentences handed down are ridiculous in the extreme.
