Ireland is a dangerous enough country these days for a few different reasons. Every country is getting worse I think.

Likewise all violent crime needs to be properly investigated, regardless of the victim.

I would imagine that most murderers will have committed violent crimes in the past and the courts have been to soft on them. And I say most, not all.

It is sick enough when a person is murdered / seriously assaulted by someone who has never committed a crime in the past, but when they have previous history and received short sentences or released on bail etc, that is just unforgivable on the state for failing in its duty of care to protect us all.
thats a good point, reminds me of the tragic case of the young Swiss teenager , Manuela Riedo ,who lost her life in Galway around 15 years ago. the perpetrator had a history of violence towards women but had been let off too easily for previous assualts.

Absolutely devastating situation, her parents must be going through hell today and for a long time more. Still so hard to see something like that happening, especially in daylight time. As for your man, indescribable what alot of people would like to do to him. Hopefully he never see freedom again

In winter 4pm is Not daylight time .

    It is Dark .

Even for a lone male to be out on a deserted trail - possibly wearing earbuds - would be

    extraordinarily foolish .

Predators pick the easiest prey . ALL need to have their wits about them - especially After dark :

: ie. Walk down a dark alleyway ?

Nothing justifies or mitigates what happened to this young woman , it perhaps serve as

a warning to All to be more self aware , have situational awareness !!

It’s not right . Laws too lax .
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

    4pm yesterday was not dark.
I was out at 4pm yesterday, the same day as the crime, and I could surveille my surroundings perfectly.

The canal banks in Tullamore are not deserted. They are a well-trodden public arena. I've clocked thousands of miles running and walking those banks at every hour of the day over years. It's not a spot for predators, it's a track where a vast swath of the locals go to exercise. It was a crime committed by an angry freak and a girl that was very very unlucky to cross paths with him.

It's an absolute tragedy. That despicable creature killed that poor woman. I have daughters and if anyone harmed them in any way I wouldn't rest until justice had been served. I hope he rots in prison for the rest of his day's.

    her point was good,

that walkway from what I read does not have an easy escape route, trees one side, a river the other,

she was incredibly unlucky all the same,

buy yes people on their own, especially, have to have their wits about them at all times and safety first always.
