You know, I didn't realize that people can't actually see who the reference is from.

I agree it would be much better if people saw who wrote that reference. Under the current system, I can't even see what was written about me.

Again, I don't want my ego stroked, but the reason that I think client references are a good idea is that it adds some kind of way for escorts to screen clients. The ladies that I visit are all professionals who don't take risks with their safety and respond amazingly to genuine clients.

I have some, and used to give out quite a few, but I don't know if they ever counted for much.

No escort has ever asked about them, and I have never checked them before lifting the phone.

The underlying idea is sound enough, but they are hidden away in a backwater of the site. If they showed up prominently like forum reputation they might be a useful feature to make genuine escorts and clients stand out.
