I agree the collapse of Afghanistan is more of a fault of the people of Afghanistan themselves but it's the greed of countries like China and Pakistan that is to be blamed equally. Had it not been the greedy and extremely selfish leadership of China and Pakistan, probably Taliban would not have survived for these 20 years. Terrorism has always been a weapon used by one country against another. This time it is China and Pakistan.

The West Could never win a war like Afgan because they tried to fight the Tally using convential Western rules of engagement and tactics.

You can't fight someone like the Tally who were so fucked in the head and brainwashed that they didn't care if they lived, or died. Another problem was the ANP (police). One week they were standing with ISAF forces on a VCP and in uniform, the next week they were wearing man Jams and shooting at the same blokes.

The issue was that the US tried to turn the Afgan into to them, regardless of thousands of years of Afgan culture. The only ones who took there bone were the greedy bastards who were in it for themselves and the money.

Afgan is a male dominated county. They treat women like crap. A woman has to walk behind a man, except when there are IEDs on the road. Then the women were made walk in front of the men so that the men and male kids were protected.

You couldn't beat the Tally because they are like fucking rats living in the ground and living all around you. When you sloted one there was another to take his place.

The only way to win this war, was to out last the Tally and try to slowly change the Afgan mindset though education, but that would have called for never ending cheque book, men and resources.

The Yanks left a real cake and arse party behind them and pulled out with no though for what and who they left behind. Women and children are always the victims of war, but bear in mind that some women over there are as cracked and zelious as the men are.

I feel sorry for the noncombatants, but I also feel sorry for the lads and women who were killed, left disabled and Iiving with PTSD. There were many Irish out there, serving not just for the Brits, but US, Canadan and others, this isn't counting private contactors. Afgan was a failed experment by America and the way the US left it was a disrespect to everyone, the Afgan people and those who gave their lives for nothing!

The 'Tally' and 'Afgan' are army slang from Taliban and Afghanistan. The British Army official withdrawal from Afghanistan was 2014.

Here's the short version of the Taliban.

The Taliban came about after the Russian withdrawal from the country. Afghanistan was divided in areas that were controlled by rival warlords who were formally mujahideen fighting against the USSR. These warlords fought among each other and there was no sense of a formal Afghan national identity.

There have been so many wars there the place is packed with guns. Some of these are old SMLE, 303, rifles dated back to WWII. The Afghan's are also great gunsmiths and made many copies of guns. If you can imagine the old wild west, that's Afghan.

Afghanistan is connected by a network of roads. Everything, has to be trucked across the country from one end to the other. When trucks drove though the warlord's area they were forced to pay protection money to them to pass safety. The rates of this protection money went through the roof to the point it was crippling haulers.

The roads were also a very dangerous places infestated by groups of armed men who hijacked frate and killed drivers.

The truckers were loosely banded together in what we would call unions. The first, Tally came forward in Southern Afghan to offer security to these truckers as they travelled and it was the trucker uniond who banded together to pay them.

These were seen to be religious men and many were formerly mujahideen. They won the support of the truckers and the Afghan people in the 90s. At the start you could even say they were the good guys and although were devoutly Muslim were not the extreme nut jobs that the Tally grew into.

A element of even stricter religious leaders emerged at the top of the Tally. By this stage they grew too powerful. They eventually too key areas and cities. I can't remember the name of the place, but they slaughterd the people there when they took it. When the Tally took these areas, they imposed their strict form of religion and laws on the people. These Tally got more and more powerful and nobody could do anything to stop them.

I know that they impose the wearing of beards. Men without them were punished. Women must be covered, because only their husbands are allowed to see them. They believe a woman's beauty is in her eyes. A woman isn't permitted to go out alone. She is the property of her father and then the property of her husband. When a husband wants sex his wife isn't allowed to say no. Females are not allowed to lean to read or go to school, work or drive a car. Soldiers were not permitted to talk to a woman on the street, or stop and search her.

People were beheaded and hands cut off for very little. I heard a story once, a young lad who was caught stealing and as an act of mercy the bastards drove a truck over his hand instead of cutting it off. Woman are stoned to death for very little as well.

You may have realised that I don't really like the Taliban. I can't say half of how I feel about these bastards on here. God help ordinary Afghans who just want to live in peace and God help anyone who helped the ISAF forces when they were stationed in Afghan. It is against their laws for a Muslim to convert to be a Christian. I knew one Muslim family who had turned to be Christian and they risk being put to death if they are ever found out.

I'm no expert, I just know a wee bit about them from work, but I'm sure there are a load of stuff on the internet about the Taliban.
