This is Charles Leclerc’s home track: he has lived there since 2018.
Although he starts on pole, he was denied a really record-breaking time on his last lap by Sergio Perez going off and causing a red flag.
Beginning in 1929, this is one of the most prestigious races in the world.
The setting up takes six weeks to complete and the removal after the race takes another three weeks.
The circuit is narrow and tight and is the most demanding Formula One track.

    Past winners
    6 Wins Ayrton Senna [Brazil ] 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993
    5 Wins Graham Hill [United Kingdom] 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1969
    5 Wins Michael Schumacher [Germany] 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001
    4 Wins Alain Prost [France] 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988
    3 Wins Stirling Moss [United Kingdom] 1956, 1960, 1961
    3 Wins Jackie Stewart [United Kingdom] 1966, 1971, 1973
    3 Wins Nico Rosberg [Germany] 2013, 2014, 2015
    3 Wins Lewis Hamilton [United Kingdom] 2008, 2016, 2019
2 Wins Juan Manuel Fangio [Argentina] 1950, 1957
    2 Wins Maurice Trintignant [France] 1955, 1958
    2 Wins Niki Lauda [Austria] 1975, 1976
2 Wins Jody Scheckter [South Africa] 1977, 1979
2 Wins David Coulthard [United Kingdom] 2000, 2002
    2 Wins Fernando Alonso [Spain] 2006, 2007
    2 Wins Mark Webber [Australia] 2010, 2012
    2 Wins [Germany] Sebastian Vettel 2011, 2017

Sergio Perez was going well and possibly had done enough for pole but lost control of the rear of his Red Bull at Portier, and slid into the barrier. His damage was compounded when Carlos Sainz could not react in time and his Ferrari then hit the Red Bull.

Nobody has won from outside of the top three on the grid in the dry since Alain Prost in 1985.

Weather seems to be hard to forecast but latest seems to be 50% chance of rain, and heavy rain at that.

Rain is coming down now. Wet start!

Problem is, do you risk starting on slicks and hope it dries or start on slower wets or intermediates?

Steady rain is one thing but showers is hard to choose tyres. At the moment the start has been delayed and will probably start and run behind the Safety Car for a few laps.

Even the formation lap is behind the Safety Car. Everyone is now on full wet tyres.
Question is, why not just start the race? Marshalls and officials being ultra-cautious, as is the case this year.

They keep putting the start off, but is doesn't look it is going to get any better.

Procession following the safety car. Plan is to use the cars to try to clear the water and then a standing start as usual. But that is not going to be soon.

And it is red flagged. All back to pits.

Over an hour after the race was due to start, the cars line up behind the Safety Car. Charles Leclerc has never finished a race here and has had bad luck every time he raced here. He does not want this. He has pole and the uncertain conditions will not help him capitalize on this.

Lap One of Seventy-Seven. Behind the Safety Car.

Nicholas Latifi and Lance Stroll have gone off and we are not racing yet.

Rolling Start. Sheer chaos? I think so!!

Under way at last! Lot of sliding about but everyone safely around the first lap but everyone on the limit of traction. Nervy stuff.

Max Verstappen is very good in the wet. Would make sense for Red Bull to use team orders to put him ahead of Sergio Perez.
Intermediates the fastest tyre (as much as 5 seconds a lap) but the leaders can't pit because they would lose track position.
