No I don't think that's it. It seems more a football integrity sort of thing. Maybe they think the outrageous contract is unfair (not that they can talk)... obviously they were hoping to sign him on a free transfer. I think the money is ludicrous and it's driving a wedge between the clubs and the common football fan.

That’s a bit rich coming from them, reality money changed the dynamics of the game decades ago and RM were one of the teams that reaped the rewards. Problem is, when you let money in it distorts competition, look at Chelsea, Man City PSG soon to be joined by Newcastle. The reality leagues and other trophies are bought rather than won on sporting merit for decades. I don’t blame the players, short careers in a money driven industry, milk it for you can because if you don’t what you leave on the table is not going back to the customer (aka supporters)
