I share your frustration here , it seems some are not connecting the dots here. They are not putting the actions they engage in to destruction of lives as Businesses and contracts evaporate they do not see the Domino effect in the health service or indeed some do not care
I have seen many breaches on public transport in packed environments, and I think we all know this is the place it multiplies

Will the Vintners be happy now !!! their brief success ?

I have always felt this model cannot work and that something along Swedish lines required however too late now for that

Too many self interest groups too few resources track and trace especially and some v poor communications from current government , and last but not least the anti mask 5 G idiots . I saw a grown man crying recently as his business is now gone
My own work will by 5 pm today most likely be gone again. I suspect that compliance this time is not going to go as well as last time . This is not sustainable simple as
    Clubcard stop now

Many businesses in my hometown did not reopen after the last lockdown.

These clowns published a 5 stage escalation model and within 2 days were putting Dublin in level 2.75633 and Donegal in level 3.1415. Now they're proposing going from 2 to 5. They've completely undermined themselves. They've failed to communicate and the Gards have been ultra light touch. I've seen for myself how perfectly safe but technically disallowed behaviour has been policed, while clear unsafe breaches have been ignored. The gards don't want to deal with anything difficult - it's easier to badger law-abiding citizens going about their perfectly safe business than to deal with ravers of either variety.

Fuck them if they think I'm gonna stay within 5km now when they failed to enforce the law in the last few weeks. This deserves to be ignored by the majority and made unenforceable.

BTW, I have sympathy for the vintners. What NPHET don't seem to have any medical expertise in is behavioural science. If you shutdown one outlet for social interaction, others will pop up. The criterion for opening pubs should have been whether each one can open safely or not. Limit numbers, police it, enforce it, and take away licences from any that turn a blind eye to dangerous behavior.

There are fewer deaths this year in Ireland than the usual average.

400 infections per day but only maybe 1 death.

I wonder if more die from suicide as they lose their business.
From cancer by avoiding hospital and treatment / diagnosis.

I wonder if more will die from the effects of lockdown than the 1 per day pandemic

We are going to have to cope with this virus. It is no good just "locking down" until it "goes away" because it isn't going to go away. Nobody, anywhere, seems to have a viable long-term plan.

As Tony says, the lockdown does have its own collateral damage of people who suffer and die because of the lockdown, not because of the virus.

I was sceptical of Sweden because I truly believed that it made sense to lockdown early, get numbers under control and then build the infrastructure and capacity to deal with any surge while cracking down on egregiously bad behaviour.

What I now know is that once centralised unaccountable powers get a whiff they can control people, that's all they learn to do. It's much easier to rinse and repeat than to actually put proper systems in place. So they're doing the only thing they're comfortable with doing, and if it fails well then it's fault of the people, not them. It's an addiction.

I believe that NPHET and Oireachtas members should only be paid PUP rates under PUP rules while we're in L3 or above so they have some empathy with the people whose lives they are controlling.

Now, I'm beginning to think Sweden had it right. Not everything they did was perfect but they at least seem to have a semi-normal functioning society.
