Default Monaco Grand Prix, Sunday 23rd at 14:00

Qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, Round 5 of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship.

    1 Charles Leclerc [Ferrari]
    2 Max Verstappen [Red Bull]
    3 Valtteri Bottas [Mercedes]
    4 Carlos Sainz [Ferrari]
    5 Lando Norris [McLaren]
    6 Pierre Gasly [AlphaTauri]
    7 Lewis Hamilton [Mercedes]
    8 Sebastian Vettel [Aston Martin]
    9 Sergio Perez [Red Bull]
    10 Antonio Giovinazzi [Alfa Romeo]
    11 Esteban Ocon [Alpine]
    12 Daniel Ricciardo [McLaren]
    13 Lance Stroll [Aston Martin]
    14 Kimi Raikkonen [Alfa Romeo]
    15 George Russell [Williams]
    16 Yuki Tsunoda [AlphaTauri]
    17 Fernando Alonso [Alpine]
    18 Nicholas Latifi [Williams]
    19 Nikita Mazepin [Haas]
    20 Mick Schumacher [Haas]

Charles Leclerc crashed after his pole setting run and brought out red flags that prevented others getting in a late run. His car is badly damaged and if it requires a new gearbox he will receive penalties.

Charles Leclerc has gearbox problems on the way to the grid. The team could have changed it and took a penalty and started sixth. The gamble looks unwise now.

Looks like a good interesting race the way the starting grid is panning out but unfortunately, because of work commitments I will only see the start of it.

Latest seems to be they are set for a pitlane start at the back, that is, if they start at all. Should have taken the penalty!

Race director Michael Masi has decided the drivers will not move up one place. So, Monaco starts with no-one in pole position.

Latest is it can't be fixed. Charles Leclerc, the pole-sitter, is out before the race even starts. He lives in Monaco so this is his home crowd.

Max Verstappen starts at the front but is not on pole so Valtteri Bottas is behind but more on the racing line. Interesting.

Valtteri Bottas got a good start but is still second. Max Verstappen shuts door on him and keeps the lead.

Max Verstappen being pressured somewhat by Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen's main problem at the moment is preserving his tyres so that he is not pressured into a premature pit stop.

Lewis Hamilton is still in sixth. Long way to go but if it finishes like this, Max Verstappen will lead the championship.

Carlos Sainz in third is now starting to pressure Valtteri Bottas. This must take some pressure of Max Verstappen.

And Lewis Hamilton pits. On hard tyres so that should be him to the end of the race.

Valtteri Bottas pits and as has happened before, has a disastrous pit stop. Not only slow, but cannot get wheel off, so he is out!
