Man, 65, convicted of purchasing sex in landmark prostitution case

    https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/...se-899086.html

A man has been convicted of purchasing sex, in what is the first conviction under new prostitution laws introduced in April 2017.
***** *****, aged 65, with an address at Moatlands, Rathoath, Co Meath, was fined €200 in relation to the purchase of sexual services at West End Village, Blanchardstown, west Dublin on 30 March 2018.
It is the first conviction under Section 25 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017, which was enacted on April 3, 2017 after being signed into law by then justice minister Frances Fitzgerald.

Mr ***** was charged with paying, giving, offering or promising to pay or give money or any other form of remuneration or consideration for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with a prostitute.
The case, which appeared before Dublin District Court this morning, followed an investigation by specialist officers attached to Operation Quest, based within the Garda National Protective Services Bureau (GNPSB).
The Oireachtas Justice Committee recommended the new offence in a report it published in June 2013.

As reported by the Irish Examiner last November, the DPP ordered the first prosecution under the act after receiving a file from the GNPSB.
Section 25 of the 2017 Act amended the provisions of Section 7A of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 1993.
Ruhama, which works with women affected by prostitution and sex trafficking, welcomed the conviction.

“This case sends a clear message to Irish society that it is not acceptable to pay for access to another person’s body for sexual gratification,” said Ruhama CEO Sarah Benson.

“Sex buyers have been operating with impunity in Ireland for far too long, and we are hopeful that more convictions will be achieved under this legislation in future.
“Evidence has shown that tackling ‘demand’ is a key mechanism for preventing the sexual exploitation of the most vulnerable in our society. While the sex trade continues to thrive due to buyer’s demand, the criminal gangs running it are profiting.”

'' is not acceptable to pay for access to another person’s body'' who the F**K are you Ruhama to tell us what is acceptable and what is not? WHo the F**K are you to tell me what i should do and what i should NOT do with MY body. I use a part of my body plus brain to earn money like others use hands , eyes, and other parts of their bodies to earn their living. Just because i chose to use a more ''delicate'' part of my body to pay my bills not means u have the right to tell me that one is forbidden to be used. What bunch of idiot women this Ruhama. F'''king bitches

I guess he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time , we all know how easy it would be to catch punters if the Garda really wanted to use their resources for this purpose.
My encounter with the cops was nerve wracking but they weren’t interested in me , more so that the girl was not being trafficked.
But has made me more cautious,

This was always on the cards once that law was passed , they would name and shame the first person caught and charged to make an example of them.
Wonder did the gards challenge him outside the app block as to what he was doing there , and he confessed? What do you do if you are in same position?? tell them to fook off and mind their own business , say you were visiting a friend /relative ?? Can you be charged if you dont admit to it ,?? Surely they would have to interview- which is never going to happen i know - escort to ask her if you payed for sex if you said no.

I think most people missed the part about him being caught in a raid, I'd say he was caught red handed. Wonder how I'd get out of that one ?

I agree with Cherry , a lady who speaks sense in all her points.

I feel sorry for the guy publicly crucified , if he has not done any wrong particular. And as for the ppl here laughing at him, grow up for fucks sake.

Unless there is a hard voice for the " independent ladies / ts / tv's or guys " here , you will not win the fight against the anti men movenent in Ireland or anti man media or Ruma.

I don't think any location is " safe " but if you are visiting anywhere make an informed choice with " independents " only.

I agree mate your post, that no location is safe. Their is always risk that anyone can be in wrong place and time.

But one advantage of independent Lady is, if a raid did happen you have a better chance of talking your way out of it. As you then can claim you her boyfriend if she agree to it.

I use to visit one Lady who I thought was independent Lady. She even has her own apartment, but in time I realise she someone living there with her. And she doesn't share with other Ladies as told me that.
So the risk to that is great also, if caught in a raid.

Hotel meeting are great, as I visited Lady myself last week in hotel. But risk is always there and discretion is the key to all visit in any location.

I have many meeting where a Ladies is sharing. I totally understand that safety of another Lady in apartment, is safety for both.

We got to remember that a Lady who see clients, is risking her life each and every time a Gent walk in the door. To her she feel safe with knowledge that another Lady is in apartment and both work in comfort of other Lady presence.

Just a pity this law didn't see it like that and if they work one day what these Ladies do, they would consider the danger of their business they do seeing strangers on days when they work.

For a independent Lady it could be a high risk business , but any business is high risk situation. Because she alone and in company of strangers who come to meet her. Especially if she undress and what to say if client don't get aggressive or pushy, she has no one to help her out.

That why I believe two Ladies sharing should be allow and if the Lady want to work independent then do so.

But does the law see that side to the problem, the risk these Ladies endure day in day out in her business.....? Or like they do take the easy way out !

Would imagine this is a gamechanger for for anyone considering a punt in future , been over this before in a previous post but i think its relevant , papers said " brothel "was raided , does this mean they knocked on appartment door and challenged this guy about what he was doing there ???

I can’t help thinking that this guy was very unfortunate, are there any more cases pending ?, and is there anything to be learned for us ordinary decent punters .
