Are we really in a place, still, where what a woman wears can act as an indicator as to her offering consent? Frightening

If anybody uses clothing as consent, then they really need to be wiped from the earth.
It is appalling for anybody to agree to this.

Yeah, I was surprised that it was actually started the thread .
But absolutely valid point and apart from Dinasors I don't think anyone believes the way someone dresses is any form of consent.
And in the Belfast rugby rape trial how was it relevant showing the lady in question's underwear ?

Are we there yet ?
While I'd never consider clothing as consent, people should be more aware of the temptation clothing can create.
Like, if I walk through the wrong area flashing my Rolex and waving a wad of cash I'd expect to get robbed, but does that mean that I consent to being robbed.

I hope you need to pee 3 times tonight, but that you only wake up twice.
If I saw you wearing a Rolex and waving a wad of cash, I would never consider robbing you. But robbers would...
If I saw a woman was wearing a thong, (not sure how I would see it unless I was already at her clothes) I would never consider raping her. But rapists would...
Watches dont cause robberys, Robbers cause robberys. Clothes don't cause rape.. Rapists cause rape.
Not having a go at you my friend... your point is there are nasty people around as you say in the wrong area, which is valid, but these nasty people are nasty by nature.. not because of your watch or a womans thong.

I do not know the circumstances or evidence in this case or the extent to which the lady's wardrobe had a bearing on the outcome.
However, I have personal experience of this on a jury on which I served where this aspect was introduced by the defence. I can attest it was given no regard by those 12 people just and true.
The jury process is not a perfect system as I learnt in that experience. But I also learnt that everyone there was honest, wise and earnest for the truth. I don't think you can get more than that.

I do not know the story in the particular rape case, but you cannot go out in public without noticing thongs on a regular basis.
Just like a thief is going to steal, a rapist is going to rape and victims that aren't careful are easy targets. It's not the victims fault, it's largely the fault of law enforcement agencies that fail to protect the public.

You seem to be in this train of thought 1% maybe less if a girl wears clothing that is to you provocative she is also publicly labeling herself as up for it ? Like as in any man will do the woman is on because she is telling all men look at me i am wearing a thong so come on boys . She is giving a form of consent , she knows it, she wants it ? So she is getting what she asked for what she deserved , its at least partially her fault , she is to blame even , what is a red blooded man expected to do, she made me do it . Not me Gov , look at how she was dressed !!
I am of course exaggerating your statement to make a point , the point being this, no excuses ever not even .001% of the vague logic of your comparison . Because it is the remnants the echos of your post that propels men to where this woman ended up , as per the P Jackson trial and the tweets we saw by those "men" to each other as in she deserved it she wanted it sure look at her choice of under ware .
The fact that a barrister believes he can wave a womans underware in court and win a case, makes me sick . I would like to meet him I would that Barrister , a toad , but he judged he could succeed with this tactic. What does that say about "our culture" and where do we stand in our desire to do better for women V neanderthals. You decide . But bear in mind how many men this judgement will enable to rape before you decide where you want to be in this debate ,
intentional or not 1% or less your logic others will see as an Amber light , we need the strongest shade of no compromise RED here . If my post riles you a bit, good , I want you to think through what you posted as I m sure you do not mean to even in the most minuscule way give affirmation to the "look at what she made me do" brigade I have heard that shit in another part of my life a bit too much hence my reaction.

Some rapists appear predatory will probably rape anyway, others may be trying to control their urges. A woman dressed seductively might struggle to attract the attentions of those she desires, but she is guaranteed to attract the attentions of those she doesn't desire.
Sexual offenders are not put away for long enough and are allowed walk around unmarked. An attractive woman is probably perfectly safe with more than 70% of men, she can handle most of the remainder but there is a small percentage of humanity that are scum and they walk among us.

Not me, but some victims are just not careful enough, and attract the attention of predators. They are not doing anything wrong, its the attacker that is the wrongdoer. But our society allows known offenders to walk publicly and to re-offend, it's just not safe to dress provocatively in public.
