A couple of days ago a bill "FOSTA/SESTA" passed through the house and senate that is set to drastically change the lives of escorts for the worst. It's being posed as an "anti trafficking bill" but realistically we all know thats just code for "anti sex work". The bill itself won't be active for at least 90 days but already it's causing a lot of problems for workers in the US and soon those outside.

In the US several large advertising sites have shut down (voluntarily for now) like TER which was a HUGE free forum for workers to advertise for free on, I myself use it and rely heavily on it when I tour the US, CityVibe which was very popular on the west coast and even Craigslist have shut down their personal sections including bloody platonic encounters. If you're on twitter you'll see how much escorts are panicking and rightfully so. I've been tweeting about it from my account but others have much more to say and say it better.

They are literally having their income sources snatched away from them in the name of a bullshit anti trafficking bill and it's so sad. Imagine if this happened in Ireland to EI (not saying it will just imagine). Sure everyone would work out other ways of working in the end but there would be many left near destitute with no way to work till that happened. Never mind the horny lost clients walking around with boners and blue balls lol.

The bill also threatens basically any of us who have our own private websites with .com domains or who host in the USA, our social media (Twitter is a big source of advertising for many of us) down to even our bloody gmail accounts. It's truly a nightmare and there is so little we can do about it. The worst part is how it's going to effect the most marginalised and least privileged.

Gosh it almost makes the godforsaken Nordic model look harmless (it's not harmless of course). I cannot believe they think this will keep escorts safer? Burning down places to advertise and screen clients safely.

A bloody sad time to be alive and even sadder if you're an escort in the U

I'm addicted to trying to fight for the rights of myself and others who are often ignored as we are sex workers. So maybe. But that's a compliment

You're welcome Do you think maybe you use this campaigning as a way of raising your own escort profile and enhancing your image?

Is it possible some people here maybe think further than their own self-interest and genuinely have some sort of social conscience?

    Yes that's possible, even likely.
What is a certainty is that Amber is an intelligent erudite lady capable of speaking for herself.

She certainly is. And capable of thinking beyond raising her own escort profile and enhancing her image?

Nope. I don't need to use campaigning as self promo or enchanting my image. I've been working for 9 years successfully now and have always done pretty well thankfully.

The majority of the things I do are behind the scenes so nobody knows about them anyway. I do things because I care and am genuinely interested in sex worker rights. As someone who has been pretty privileged and has the ability to speak out without loosing work I also think it's kind of my duty to?

I'm sure some will think it's self promo but thats okay, that is their prerogative. I know my actions are genuine and that is the most important thing.

Thank you. Everyone has things they care about and sex worker rights are a big deal to me. There are a few other things I care about outside of the industry (immigration rights) but obviously they aren't things I am vocal about with my escort persona because it's not relevant x

The issue goes way beyond sex workers rights. More governments (not just the Americans) are seeking to control and regulate what is on the internet.

Yes. Her own answer below yours speaks well for her

Thank you. Your response has an honest ring of certainty about it so well done. I'm not sure anything can be done about it but I hope those escorts who can't afford personal websites and expensive adverts find another platform to allow them to advertise and work as safely as possible.
Perhaps I have become cynical when I see the likes of red.org raise millions to combat HIV and AIDS in Africa and years later when it is revealed that most went in salaries and advertising we are told that it is not so much an organisation to fight the spread of HIV as an organisation to raise awareness of the problem. i.e. an oppurtunity for celebrities to spout platitudes and raise their own profiles.
Good luck to you Amber, you do seem genuine.

The ringing endorsement of an internet nobody will have made her day.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Only by one little step at a time can consciousness be raised.
