I think its a dumb craze. Most peeps who do it have no idea what they are doing it for.

I have one of those stupid facial hair things where it grows from one side of my face across to the other, like a cow's lick. Or a baboon's arse.
So when I grow my beard it looks like a fake one that I've put on sideways.

On the plus side I'm old enough that the horrible ginger colour has given way to a dirty silver.

I don't know what neck of the woods you're in but it's generally well known what it's in aid of here in Cork.

Movember (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, "mo", and "November") is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to "change the face of men's health."

By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as "Mo Bros") to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
    It's a good cause, it's shouldn't be scoffed at.

Whether they know or understand themselves it doesn't mater there still highlighting the issue and normally doing it for a charity which can't be a bad thing

Exactly. It's still early days for the Mo Bro movement, give it time and it will ... grow.
Plus it bugs the shit out of hipsters. That's worth doing in and of itself.
