Trivial fact for today;
This day, 4th October, sixty years ago,the Soviet Union launched of Sputnik, the first man-made satellite. This worried the USA.
Sixty years later, Ireland is still worried about EI.

My father used Sputnik as a slang term for an unusual, strange or weird object.
I dunno if other people used the word in that way.
Something was bothering me about the thread title, so I finally looked it up. "Sputnik burned up on 4 January 1958 while reentering Earth's atmosphere, after three months, 1440 completed orbits of the Earth,[1] and a distance travelled of about 70 million km"
My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
So I packed up all her clothes
And left.
