I am dealing with what could be life changing injuries, I often get the compensation thing from people, my answer is simple, ask any person who is say in a wheelchair for life which they would prefer, compensation or being able to walk, when its put like that its a no brainer. In this fire if insurance is the only issue it is not a sufficient deterrent, it will happen again what is needed is a good solid 10-14 years in jail for corporate manslaughter along with compensation. You see that gets the attention of the careless and greedy, an increased insurance premium not so much.

Heads are going to roll for this one. And the Prime Minister could be the biggest casualty. Her dealing with this situation was bizarre and she appears to lack empathy towards those effected.

Building's cladding and insulation fail fire safety tests, no sprinkler system installed, fire alarms supposedly failed. Police are to consider manslaughter charges possibly against the Council and building contractors. Up to 600 buildings in Britain are to be investigated to see what type of cladding was used. Cladding is being stripped from 7 buildings at present.
Wonder what they are doing so far, here in Ireland. People have suspicions about some of what was thrown up in Celtic Tiger days.

Shocking revelations. Hopefully our government will use this as an excuse to re-examine existing and new builds to ensure something like this doesnt happen again. As you mentioned, there were a lot of buildings and houses thrown up during the Celtic Tiger days, and some of them had awful shoddy workmanship.
Such a sad story. And so avoidable, too.
It was not just the cladding, that was just part of it as you'll see on Sky New 800 people in London have now been evicted from their homes in to tempary accommodation for the same reason, apart from the dangerous cladding, 'the gas pipes where built into the stairways in the Hammersmith tragedy'. And is why the council would not comment on the situation in Hammersmith, however I'm guessing due to 800 being now relocated in other areas in London, the full facts will not be too long coming out about the Hammersmith tragedy and where gas piping was fitted. There can't keep the full facts quite forever.

4,000 people removed from 650 flats in London overnight, with little warning, amid concerns over cladding and gas pipe fittings.
