Tom, Guards are only interested in criminals, you have no fear of them checking your IP address unless you do something wrong ! However if something happened to a lady you were with, (ie she was robbed or assaulted ) yes, then then would find you, but probably quicker on phone, unless you emailed the lady outside of site. Every time a phone is switched on it sends a signal, and that is very easy to trace, your phone can even tell you the weather, wherever you are ! I have Wi-Fi in car, and work can see what sites I visit if they want, sure it is same with all transport companies, they would then use IP add. for advertising no such thing as free Wi-Fi. Most large companies know exactly who logs on, to what site and what time, they have to in case someone does something wrong .

To answer the original question (and it has been answered by others)
CAN they track you though your IP address? Yes. With a lot of effort, expense, bother. (and maybe luck)
WILL they they track you though your IP address? No. Not unless you have done something very serious to justify the effort.

This is very true but unfortunately your open and liberal view of the world is not shared by those drafting such laws.

There have been cases in the past where shows have been made by getting the warrants needed to do a group sting. And at the moment it really is unclear how much energy will go into enforcement.

As the saying goes, I may be paranoid but that doesn't mean they're not out to get me!
