What To Do In Cork??

I'm almost embarrassed to say it, but this is my first time in the people's republic! Loving it so far, think I'll be leaving with a Cork accent, it's infectious! Perhaps some of you fine locals can tell me what's not to miss in Cork, gonna explore the city a bit Not interested in pubs or clubs, gonna be a tourist!

Thanks all for this I am there in a few weeks and was wondering what I could do while I was there, shopping and pubs aren't my thing. Honan chapel sounds beautiful I think that will bee a must for me, any other interestin architectural buildings you can recommended?

Blarney Castle-for talking bollocks and kissing stones without being stoned.

The Lough-for walks, waterfowl and bird poo.

The shaky bridge-that doesn't shake as much anymore, as it once did.

Diarmuid Gavin's flying garden that is now very much anchored to the ground.

St. Finbarr's Cathedral-Finbarr being an early langer.

St. Colman's Cathedral, Cobh. -Colman being Finbarr's langer cousin.

Cork City Gaol-that houses no prisoners.

The Lee fields-where you can enjoy a pee by the Lee.

Cork Opera House and the Triskel Arts Centre where langer culture vultures hang out.

Shandon bell tower- the four faced liar

Ogham Stones in UCC for the cultured nerd.

Elizabeth Fort-Barrack Street.

Spike Island-a place of internment for those who misbehave in langerland.

Charles Fort and James Fort, Kinsale-defending the realm against the foreigner - the langers probably misunderstand why they are called rebels.

Ireland is still known for its Kerrygold, Cork was once known for its Butter Museum, which may now be closed.
In the nineteenth century Cork was the leading exporter of butter to the world, a major resupplier, victualler /chandler to the Royal Navy and a major exporter of salted meat.

The English Market, on the trawl for a famous royal fishmonger.

Ballincollig Gunpowder Mills and Ballincollig Regional Park, one or other of these is sure to blow those early morning cobwebs away.

And finally, don't take Cork people too seriously,

they are well able to do that for themselves.

Incidentally the name Cork comes from the Irish word '' corcach'' meaning something like marsh-referring to the lowlying damp land, prone to flooding that once existed along the River Lee.
