This decision comes as no surprise and it will also have a knock on effect for future Ryder Cups including the Adare Manor hosting of the competition now being delayed until 2027.

Jon Rahm has a 4 shot lead going into the final round of the Memorial tournament in Ohio. If he holds on to his lead at the end of today`s round he will take over as number 1 in the world rankings. Rory McIlroy is 10 shots behind Rahm. Today should have been the last round of the Open Championship at St. Georges with Shane Lowry looking to win back to back Opens but the virus put paid to that schedule. Hopefully it will go ahead this week next year.

Jon Rahm has become the new world number 1 after winning the Memorial tournament last night. He had a 3 shot margin over Ryan Palmer. Rahm is just the second Spaniard, after Seve Ballesteros, to top the rankings.

Justin Thomas returned to number 1 in the world rankings after winning the ST Jude tournament in Tennessee last night. His final score of -13 was 3 shots clear of a four man group including Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson. Shane Lowry finished a further shot back. The victory for Thomas comes just a few days before the start of the first major of the year the USPGA later this week which he won in 2017.

I think Brooks Koepka is the man to beat in the US PGA. He always raises his game for the Majors and he is going for 3 wins in a row in this Championship. Whatever the outcome I don`t think he will be too far away from the top of the leaderboard come next Sunday night.
