Lowry shot 68 in the end but as you said considering his poor form coming into the tournament it is still a super round for him. Hopefully he can build on it.

He did and he posted a decent score at -2 as well. Some big names didn`t do so well today though including Dustin Johnson who is way down the field on +1, Francesco Molinari on +3, Matt Kuchar, Hideki Matsuyama, who held the lead when the 2020 Championship was abandoned, both of whom are on +4 and the former Open champion Henrik Stenson who had an absolute horror round and is 2nd from bottom of the entire field on +13.

At the halfway point of the Players Championship Lee Westwood leads by a shot from Matt Fitzpatrick on -9. A long way to go of course but if he does go all the way on Sunday I believe he would be the oldest ever winner of the competition at age 48. A slightly better round today from McIlroy but on +10 he still misses the cut by a massive margin. No luck either for Graeme McDowell finishing his round on +3 he will be going home early as well. Shane Lowry had a mediocre round today but on a score of -2 at least he will still be taking part in the tournament for the weekend. 1st round leader Sergio Garcia is still very much in contention after a level par round today to be just 2 shots behind Westwood. Bryson DeChambeau is nicely placed on -6. A number of big names will be going home early though. Along with the 2 Northern Irishmen Francesco Molinari, Ian Poulter, Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar will all be among those packing their bags tonight.
