I find this very strange. First of all Its my first time hearing of any violence to a punter, but I may be wrong there. Secondly to remove a ring is rather a time consuming and difficult task usually... were you unconscious?

i think it may be more common than we think but often we say nothing as its embarrassing so let it go, not much help for clients out there, is there.

Not much you can do except put it down to experience.
