If I were the sort of redneck hillbilly that watches mass murder in the form of senseless shootings month after month and still holds inviolate "that thurr rahht to bear arms"
then I'd probably be too busy fucking my mom and my sister to teach them how to shoot properly anyway.

Uf the answer is more guns, you're probably asking the wrong question.

I don't see anything wrong with one licensed shotgun per home in rural areas. Anything else, pistols, rifles, semi-automatic weapons, is stupid.

I would imagine that there will always be an argument for allowing the public to have a weapon for home/personal defence, but I have read somewhere else, that armed homeowners are more likely to have their own firearms used against them than by them.
The article mentions that the woman involved was in the national guard, probably with quite a lot of training in stressful conditions. How many home owners with guns have this same level of training? Also, even with her training , she was shot at least twice, if that can happen to her, how likely is it that less trained individuals will have a similar or better outcome. Maybe having a safe room in the house would be better.

    America is not Ireland.
    Ireland is not America.

We live in Ireland and do not need guns except in rural areas but what a lot of people seem to forget every time there is a shooting here it is very rarely a licensed gun.
In America in some states you can get a license to carry a concealed weapons who the hell wants to carry a concealed weapon and young kids over there are trained at a very young age to shoot but the major problem is adults leaving loaded guns where kids can access them . Again the majority of killings in US are illegal weapons so what law picks these up.

Spot on. In almost every recorded case of an armed civilian foiling an attempted shooting/hold-up it turns out the person has had extensive training with firearms in a professional capacity.
We're more often than not talking about people who have had training dealing with the situation that they find themselves in.
8 hours shooting at a gun range before being allowed carry concealed weapons is not the same thing, no matter how good a shot you think you are.

In the rurals area,s people need guns now for self protection, as their are now too few Guards in the country now.
Too many old people are getting beat up inn their own homes.
If push come,s to shove with me well my thinking is
I,d rather be alive in jail than dead in a morgue
