1993 sexual offences act that outlawed soliciting on the street and brothel running will still be in place despite TORL's stated goal of decriminalisation of sex workers (ie prostituted women and girls in TORL lingo).

Surely, without doubt, 2 people can meet in a apartment and have sex. Who can prove money has been paid? Does this make sense? Ld.

To be fair , the criminalisation of clients was almost a certain fait d'accompli from the very beginning though Alan Shatter was obviously unimpressed by the JOC and the way it conducted its responsibilities. Have to say i've huge sympathy or the escorts involved as it is they that will probably get the brunt of this legislation .

This legislation appears to have little in common with the Swedish Model and more in common with the US Model where both parties will be criminalised (with exception of where escort is working in solitude).
Nonetheless, TORL will spin it as such in the days ahead as a victory ,completely disregarding the similar criminalisation of the ladies involved.

As if needed, it shows us that ROI politicians are generally as backward as their Northern brethern and will happily turn a blind eye to 'inconvenient' voices (in this case , SWs) to pontificate for self serving reasons .
It is also a salutary lesson on the role of NGOs and unions and on the duplicious nature of those organisations .

It was always inevitable that the rights sought by sex workers would have to be got through the courts . To be honest, if the US style legislation does become law(inevitable now) ,one would imagine that it will be a lot easier to overturn . The one fear that one may have is that ,similar to the Canadian govt's ploy , in future when this legislation is struck down , that the then Irish Govt would then seek the Swedish Model to obstruct SWs rights further.

More outcalls and more discreet liasons and advertising to become the norm.
More dangerous for the sellers of sex though :-(

In Sweden they sent police to listen at the door, unlikely our lads will do that.

You know, I've sent a good dozen or so emails over the last few months to that cunt of a supposed justice minster. Each one a bigoted reply from her minions whom completely ignored everything I said and gave the same sanctimonious crap reply each and every time. It is a fucking disgrace. And every word spoken by Laura Lee and others completely ignored and fallen on deaf ears. Even though I am not surprised that this is the way things went, it is still a sad day to be Irish. Bigotry wins.
