Surely this is not a good thing to have this guy and his party governing alone with no opposition in government to rein him in and will carry on with his austerity plans.

Unlike many European countries (including Ireland), the United Kingdom does not have much experience, and does not function well with coalitions. The “first-past-the-post” system as opposed to some of the many forms of proportional representation, also makes single party rule more suitable.
“Austerity” is controversial, it can be argued you have to spend to stimulate the economy, the so-called “priming the pump” [Keynesian economics] but spending money you do not have, increasing debt, also has its risks.
David Cameron has seen off the risk of UKIP taking some of his votes (most UKIP votes appear to be at the cost to Labour) and the problem of Conservative eurosceptics, by promising a referendum on EU membership. This could be now a problem.
David Cameron is a cunt. And that is the nice way of saying it.
Meanwhile, not unexpectedly, Ed Miliband is expected to fall on his sword. Speech expected at noon.
Nick Clegg wont be far behind.

and the man who was going to run the economy if labour won couldn't even run a campaign to win his seat.

But to more important political matters.
Paddy Ashdown said, ‘I’ll eat my hat if the exit polls are right’.
The exit polls were right. The nation awaits.
He is former member of the British special forces, so he has probably eaten worse things during his survival training
