Actually rape has many, many shades of grey and I don't believe all rape was done with deliberate intention to abuse. Look at it this way. A client could go see an Escort and think he has tried his best to meet a lady working of her own free will, but the fact may not be the same and in that respect he would have raped her.
A man and a woman get drunk together and have sex. He doesn't ask her, as they have been kissing and one thing led to another. She may have decided before getting drunk that she was not going to have sex, but after drinking, she was unable to keep that decision. Did he rape her, or did they both make a bad decision based on being drunk? Can a person who is drunk give their consent?
A young girl and her partner think they are in love. She is 15 and he is 16. She tells him that she is ready and she wants him to 'be the one'. They have sex and for them it is glorious and as it should be, but the parents are horrified when they find out and the boy is arrested for rape as she is under age.
Rape can be the most horrible and violent act upon another person and it can also be a matter of crossed wires or a problem with true consent. It really isn't black and white.
