There were a couple of women down through the years who I knew fancied me but I hesitated to ask out and they lost interest. That I regret.

Because like it or not there is still a stigma attached to a woman being forward and in many cases the guy won't look at her as 'girlfriend' material and think she is easy.
There is also the fact that a lot of guys like the chase and it it's handed to them on a plate they lose interest.
Basically, you can't win either way.

I think if a guy is put off a woman because she approached him it's more likely because he was not used to being pursued in that way. Or maybe, like a lot of men, some women are just not very good at approaching the opposite sex.
This is surely a small minority. I'd say 99% of men would prefer women to be more pro-active in approaching them. Or at least be more approachable.
