Once this law comes into effect, it will be an individual choice as to how clients will act.
We all know that the likes of ruhama read these forums and draw their own conclusions, which on past form are usually wrong but suit their agenda. They recently claimed that NI punters are going to stampede over the border to ravish every escort in sight, possiby based on a satirical post featuring a fleet of Ulster buses. Yes they really are that stupid.
So I think it's worth saying that a lot of what's posted needs to be taken with a large pinch of salt. Clients who say they'll give up may well have no intention of doing so and everyone needs to work out their own strategy and weigh up the risks. I don't know about everyone else here but I already assumed it was illegal when I started several years ago and I think most of the public did as well.
As Kate said earlier, the law in Sweden hasn't stopped the sex trade by any means. It has changed and adapted, but the ones who have suffered the most have not in general been clients, but sex workers themselves and if the proponents of these bills were being honest (as was the case in Canada last year) they would admit that this is their aim.
2014 in Northern Ireland:
Number of reported attacks on sex workers 70
Number of sex trafficking cases ZERO
