Water never should have been free (Unless you drill/pump/purify it yourself)
Your income tax/road tax etc should always have been directed to Health, education, road building etc....never free water.
That's why the health service (for one) is a disgrace yet the water supply system is equally as bad.

All the more reason why its been proven that its not something that can be provided free, yet underinvested in at the same time.
I don't mind paying for it like most but very annoyed in the way the government handled this from the very start .. a farce

Like him or loath him, (and I was in the latter) Regan was President at the time, so if you disrespect the office of President another State, it`s a bit disengeneous to take umbrage when you end up on the recieving end

So where is my Local Property Tax going!!
Our health service is one of the best financed in the world, and it`s a fiasco. Irish Water is now being established on the same template and people are expecting a different outcome!!
On the evidence so far it`s a farce that is not fit for purpose that needs to be scraped and start again.

Your property tax should be going on new/upgrades/maintenance of local council or corporation projects etc.
Paths, drains, grass cutting, road maintenance............probably building of social welfare housing too mind you.

But where your property tax shouldn't be going is water services. But until people pay for that service elsewhere ,they have to rob Peter to pay Paul.

when you add it up at end of the year its expensive too, to connect to the road water about 30 metres away was going to cost us €2900, and you can't even drink it, ridiculous
Then make sure to send in your form to Irish Water. They will give you 100 Euro annually even though you are not a customer.
That`s really going to help improve the water system. Crazy!!
BTW, Irish Water have now raised the connection charge to 3,700 for all connections.
