Default Are we too critical of our own appearance?

I found this very interesting video and it got me thinking - are we too critical of our own appearance? The answer, from watching the video, is a huge YES. It seems that we mostly critical about our own looks, rather than the looks of others. I know that I am. This video has definitely made me think twice... maybe it will make you, too?

Dove have asked a forensic sketch artist to draw women without seeing them. The women are asked to describe their appearance to him. Then someone that the woman has met is asked to describe them. The two images are put side by side. It's remarkable to see the differences.

Do you think you will look at yourself a little differently?

    Great post. Thanks.

i think many people, men included are very critical of their looks which damages their confidence. Everyone should watch this video.

Lara, I totally agree we are too critical of our own appearance. I have also found this in the way some escorts who are really beautiful
can sometimes present themselves. I must admit I am very concious of how I appear when I visit an escort.

Powerful stuff and a little sad.

It's hard not to be critical of our appearance though, isn't it? Everyday we are immersed in a media saturated culture where the focus is prevalently on appearance and we are all to often encouraged to value others based primarily on their looks. I see it as a natural consequence of an unnatural fascination.

It proves the old saying we never see ourselves as others see us.

It is only in recent years that I have gained some confidence about my looks. Too bloody late !

Mostly we are. But look around. Some people seem they are not... For example young fat girls in McDo in really small jeans fat all over...

Maybe they realised they care more about McD's then their appearance?
