There are probably around only four days each month where I don't log on to work. That'll be two weekends in the month.

Best Before (24-07-13)
I only worked for 12 days of last month due to unusual circumstances. No holiday sadly. I've not had one of those for several years, although I have had the odd weekend away with friends in the UK if that counts?
I had to go back home due to one of my best friends finally losing her fight with Cancer and attending her funeral and putting a few things in place for my son, so he would be able to continue living in the family home, while I concentrate on working for the next couple of years away from home.
I also went back to spend some time with my new niece who is still only a matter of weeks old. One of the things that pains me the most about the nature of this job is being parted from family and with her being so young and me always wanting to have a daughter, it has been a huge wrench, but I am so looking forward to going back at Xmas and giving her loads of love and hugs and making sure she knows who I am. The thing I worry about most of all is being some distant Aunt she doesn't really know. I don't want that.
My work ethic or out look on life, is that I work to live, not live to work. I love my job, if you can describe it as a job, but it does not define who I am or what my life is about. It compliments my life and is a big part of who I am. I also believe strongly in providing the same standards I would demand in life, in everything that I do. This is one of the reasons why I won't do 'quickies'.
As I don't get to have many holidays, I try to pace myself and take occasional days off when I feel the need. I do love Ireland and I do love my photography, so I'll just take myself off with my camera if I need a bit of 'me' time or stay at home and cook a nice meal and just relax. I'm not a huge party girl. I'd rather a more intimate affair at a nice pub with a few friends if socialising or invite friends round for dinner.
I'm not sure if I actually answered your question now. I think what I'm trying to say is that I think for me at least it is important to get an equal balance in life. I can't do the 'all or nothing' thing, or 'work hard and play hard' as that would make me burn out. As they say... slow and steady wins the race.
