Default Does Attractive Mean Fancying Someone?

Having this chat in the E-I Batcave, and wondering what you folks think.

Can you find someone attractive without fancying them?

It started because of this man:

Now, I fancy him (come on, who wouldn't?!) and find him attractive, while others say he is attractive and don't fancy him, and others say that he is good looking but won't say he's attractive because they think it means they fancy him.

So, do you think attraction means fancying someone?

    Such a paradox, Lara!

I can appreciate that Jenson Ackles is a good looking bloke, but I wouldn't have sex with him (or any man for that matter). To me, the word 'attractive' doesn't imply any sexual connotations, as I have female friends I find attractive but have no yearning desire to mount them

Attractive is too close and says to me 'attraction'

You can say someone is good looking. But not attractive

It's all about sex appeal, a girl can be very good looking, I wouldn't say no to her but she could lack sex appeal.

I have been attracted to a lot of woman over the years , but being attracted isn't enough I need that spark . Usually for me it's not good looks , it's all about having the Craic and personality , being able to talk to her about anything .
I will play with the toys that god has given me .

There's a lot of Gay attractive escorts on here but it'd be so wrong to fancy them. Also, one of my best mates is so beautiful, model material, but he's gay.. and we're like brother and sister so i could never fancy him...

As for women, well im fussy....

My understanding is the opposite to yours. I can find someone attractive, but wouldn't say they were handsome or necessarily good looking. Personally I'm not attracted to 'pretty boys', but I can see why people find them attractive. For instance I never found Brad Pitt that attractive, apart from in An Interview with a Vampire and then it was the whole vampire thing that turned the table.

I don't really understand why the reviews have 'very attractive' to 'fairly attractive', what's wrong with 'attractive', why such a jump from one to the other? I can simply find someone attractive, without having to add an adjective to it.

Attraction is very much a personal thing and can depend on quirky things like dimples, twinkle in the eye, teeth, smile etc. It's what you personally find attractive and not what is generally regarded as 'good looking'. Symmetry doesn't necessarily come into it in the same way.

I also think if you find someone attractive, then there is a sexual connection, even if it is only one way. You can find someone to be good looking without being attracted to them, as I can appreciate that Brad Pitt is a good looking man, but just not my type.

A lot of people love an ice cream desert mixed up with fruit but it looks awful. The answer is defo not. They are two totally different things.
