In my time I have befriended a post op lady and know a couple of pre-op. Having witnessed their lives and how they felt/feel, I can honestly say that I have never seen such suffering as the pre-op. How I see it with Renatha, is that she is very young and she is going to have mixed feelings. It's not something you do lightly. I know that she was determined to have the op when I first spoke to her and it was a positive for her. Now she has changed her mind and she may decide that is fine for her or again at some stage go for it. This is why they have to jump through hoops to get the op, as there really is no going back.

One of my relatives was born with a dodgy finger. It's given her grief all her life, but it took her till the age of 22 to decide to have the digit taken off altogether. It's a big step, as it is still part of what you know about yourself.

I imagine once Renatha stops Escorting she will have a much better idea of how she feels and what she wants and has the choice to decide at that point. Only she will know the answer to that.

Regarding being not one or the other, then surely it is for her to pick which label she wants to be addressed by? It is after all, just a label!
