Apologies for re-opening this thread , but this is a topic I've been wondering about lately .
Given that the majority of the population have been exposed to HSV-1 ( Herpes type 1 ) , which seems to primarily affect the mouth region
(although I've read that it's becoming more common to see HSV-1 genital infections ) would you feel obliged to tell an escort if you tested positive ? Many people probably aren't even aware they're infected and some probably aren't fully informed as to the nature/contagiousness of the virus , but for those who get the occasional cold sore , would you tell an escort that you have oral herpes , even if you don't currently have an outbreak or are completely asymptomatic ( i.e you never have symptoms but still have the virus ? And conversely , would escorts feel a client should tell them if they have HSV-1 / would clients feel that an escort should tell them if they tested positive ?
Given the prevalence of the virus ( anywhere from 40-90 % of the global population from what I've read ) the fact that it is still possible to transmit even when a person has no symptoms ( although you are only infectious absent symptoms about 10% of the time apparently ) and that kissing is presumably pretty commonplace during appointments , would you feel the obligation to tell ?
As someone who most likely has oral HSV1 ( although I have to confirm which type with my sexual health provider next week ) I'd feel obliged to inform an escort given that it can be passed from oral-genital / oral-anal contact ; but if an appointment consisted of only kissing /protected sex I wonder whether it's necessary . I'd imagine that HSV-1 is even more prevalent among escorts , even if they have no symptoms , than the general population . I mean no offence saying that , it just seems logical to me given the nature of the profession ! Like if 70% of the population have it , I'd have to conclude that the figure is higher among escorts .
Anyway I'd be happy to get people's opinion's on this ,and sorry for dusting of a thread on a not so popular topic !
